The Wonders of Home Baked Cake!!

Cake has become popular again after years of being unfashionable. The news back in the 1980's was, to be 'on trend' you had to buy shop bought, I would never had admitted that our cakes were home baked, - it made me feel poor!! The tables have now turned. The Great British Bake Off has something to answer for, with the resurgence of cake back in our psyche, 'home-baked' is back in vogue.

From the days of baking with your grandmother, a whole industry has been reinvigorated with our desire to have 'home made', rather than shop bought; thus introducing a whole new generation into the mastery of baking and it has to be said, it's wonderful. Gone are the simple days of making, as nanny would put it, buns!! Now it's very much a sophisticated affair, stunning creations that taste equally as good.

Did you know that since 2015, a whopping one billion Brits dug out their mixing bowls and started home baking, either for the first time or again. Twelve and half million households shopped in the supermarkets’ home baking aisles in just 12 weeks during 2016 and the number of UK residents who say they bake at least once a week has now gone skyward. What happened ? Well that insignificant TV show that we've already mentioned: The Great British Bake Off. Who could have for seen it's success, yet it continues to be so. Is it the innuendo? The pastel interior design? The bunting or the desire to just take a step back for a while and enjoy simplicity?? It's now reported that 1 in every 10 women, between the ages of 25- 34 are now inspired to bake. So it seems our love of baking, for the while at least, is here to stay and hopefully never to see the return of a certain Mr you know who.
